The Lady Mentor, New Release by G.E. Taylor

Today I have a guest spotlight for G.E. Taylor’s new release, The Lady Mentor. And don’t you love that cover!Lady Mentor

When beautiful Joanna Huntington left the law firm of Petersberg, Ryan and Cole, she never dreamed the storm would force her into the path of the car driven by Vaughn Gordon, the man whom she thought she would never see again. Coming face –to- face with Vaughn at the hospital brought back memories of their first encounter when she‘d lived in Chester. How she’d boldly asked Vaughn to kiss her after she’d sensed the attraction between them was mutual. His touch made her forget any cautious teachings she’d heard and his kisses had sent so much heat flowing through her that every cell in her body clamored for his full possession. But now she wanted to hide.

Vaughn had everything he wanted, except the woman of his dreams. Joanna had been marked off limits, not because she was biracial and he was white but because that was demanded of him. He agreed to back off…for a time. But then she disappeared. Now here she was lying before him possibly hurt.

Fate would not be so cruel to take her from him again just when he found her.

“At last,” said Vaughn’s deep voice.

Joanna was so shocked she flopped down into the nearest chair.

“Are you there, Joanna?”

She cleared her throat. “Yes, I’m here. What can I do for you?” she asked, politely while her heart raced away like an unstoppable train.

“I take it you have fully recovered from the accident?”

“Yes. And it’s not necessary for you to continue to call.”

“It’s not necessary?”

“No. As a matter of fact, I wish you wouldn’t. I think you should forget you ran into me. Forget you saw me.”

“But I can’t do that,” came the husky reply. “We’ve been over this already, Joanna. Please have dinner with me this evening.”

“Now, why would I do that when I just told you−−−?”

“Joanna, I’m picking you up this evening. I’m not playing the waiting game anymore. If you’re not ready when I get there, it will be my pleasure to personally dress you.”

Arrogant bastard! “Why don’t you go harass someone else? I’m sure that banker’s daughter wouldn’t mind. Both of you look like a nice little couple in the papers.”

“I don’t mess around with married women, which she is now. At the time, I was asked to escort her to the function. Besides, I want to be with you, no one else.”

Well, he’d told her he would not waste time, and apparently he’d meant it. He was moving forward with the relationship. Truthfully, she wanted to see him again. They had a lot of unfinished business. Some she couldn’t make go away. Having dinner with him should give her some answers.

“Joanna, is eight okay?”

“Yes, that will be fine. Where are we going?”

“Downtown Newark, to the Neck, to one of the Spanish restaurants. You liked Spanish food, as I recall.”

“You remembered,” she stated quietly, blown away that he would remember such a small thing about her after all this time.

“There’s very little I don’t remember about you, Joanna. Give my regard to your lovely mother, and I’ll see you at eight.”

She replaced the phone in its cradle thoughtfully, a deep frown creasing her brows. There was no going back now. Truth be told, she was excited and was actually looking forward to being with him. There was no denying the fact that nobody else made her heart race with such speed or sing with such joy. The time spent away from him made her body even more responsive to him. She craved his touch and felt so alive when she was with him. She didn’t want to look too deeply into why. She only knew that from the first day they’d met, something special, magical was between them. Apparently that had not changed.

As Katherine entered the apartment, she sensed a change, and she looked at Joanna seated on the chair. “Is everything all right, Joanna?” she asked anxiously.

“Yes. I’m going to dinner with Vaughn tonight.”

“Are you sure this is what you want to do?”

Joanna understood this was no ordinary question.

About G.E. Taylor

G.E. TaylorI became hooked on reading romance novels during my teen years and my attempt at writing began in high school. All of my manuscripts were mailed under my bed. Eventually, I threw out most of them. That was painful especially since I’d hand written them first, then typed them on my old typewriter.

In college I majored in English but ended up with a Master in Social Work and a Master in Education.

Though I had these different career paths, I never gave up my passion for writing. Now I’m much more committed to it and writing full time. I’ve drawn on my years of practicing social work to give my work authenticity and realism.

I live in New Jersey with my family.

The Necromancer’s Redemption Release

It’s out! I’m honestly overwhelmed and amazed to have completed this trilogy. At times, it ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????made me cry, others, it made me laugh, and lots of times, made me pull my hair out. The best part however, was hearing from readers who loved the characters, especially Ruby, the necromancer. People seemed to appreciate her strong, independent nature without being a physically strong heroine. Ruby kicked ass in her loyalty and love for her friends, mental strength, and resiliency, even when she was literally going mad.

Find our more about The Necromancer’s Redemption on Amazon, and check out my Giveaway!

To celebrate my release, I’m offering a copy of my short story booklet, The Werewolf’s Devotion, (read about it here) and a $15 Amazon giftcard to one person who leaves a comment with their zombie name! I’m a Famished Flesh-eater!

Find your inner zombie here: http://www.playbuzz.com/epicreads10/what-type-of-zombie-are-you

I will choose one person via random.org at midnight EST Sunday (the 29th).

Is this the last we’ll see of our heroes? I don’t think so. I have some novella ideas simmering in my head, maybe even one featuring Kara and Jax 🙂 But first, I’d like to start on a new series, more of a supernatural thriller, dealing with voodoo, or the Orisha religion that originated with the Yoruba people in West Africa. I’m very excited about it. And, of course, my ongoing pirate historicals.

Don’t forget to check out my new release mailing list for information on new releases and sales on both series. Sign up here: http://eepurl.com/-rc6L

A Feminist BDSM Adventure. Shanyn Hosier’s new release!

Happy Valentine’s Day! My friend, Shanyn Hoiser, and frequent guest on my blog has a new release, and I had the pleasure to critique it. Yes, I’m biased, but you’re in for a treat! Want a more realistic approach to BDSM? Try out Ingenue! Scroll down for a sexy snippet!! Available on Amazon.Ingenue, Shanyn Hosier, Feminist, BDSM

Back Cover Copy:

Jilted by her fiancé, Paige Forsythe plans to lick her wounds in seclusion, looking forward to reuniting with her favorite yet ailing aunt. The shock of her heartbreak left her disillusioned with men and restless in her career as a history professor at a second-tier private college, despite her rumored promotion to department head. Tired of teaching and soul-crushing administrative duties, she longs to lose herself in research and writing, taking refuge in the safety of the past.

But the handsome, sweet guy next door has some surprising plans for Paige. Always willing to lend a hand when it comes to Aunt Lil, Reed Camden’s charming smile and eager kindness win Paige over. But when his offer of a friendly massage veers several steps beyond propriety, Paige’s complicated life skews further off-kilter. “I’ve been a Dom for years,” Reed explains, his touch igniting her desire. “I know a submissive when I see one.”

Reed casts aside his “retirement” from that life to serve as her guide, and Paige explores the unfamiliar realm of BDSM, discovering a sexually adventurous side of herself she never knew existed. What begins as a summer’s rebound fling quickly blossoms into something more, but Paige’s trust issues and deeply ingrained self-doubt threaten to sabotage their budding romance. Reed’s mysterious, dark past collides with the present, rattling her confidence further. Can Paige find the strength within to break free of her repressive life and embrace a whole new world of excitement and love?

Snippet:

I held out my hand. “Can I have my underwear back, then, if we’re done?”

Still smiling, Reed shook his head.

It took a few moments to realize he wasn’t just being coy. “Are you serious?”

He planted a light kiss on my lips. “That would make it too easy for you to forget who’s in charge. Too easy for you to pretend this didn’t happen.”

I was still frozen in shock when he eased my breast back into my bra, slipped the strap onto my shoulder. By the time he held out my shirt, I’d recovered enough presence of mind to dive into it. Then he crouched, holding my shorts open for me to step into. He drew them up slowly, staring me in the eye the whole time, and I was seduced all over again.

I wanted his rule. Every bit of it.

“For every minute of the rest of today, you’re going to think about what we did here.” He fastened the button of my waistband, then cupped my crotch through the fabric of my shorts, and I gasped. “You’re going to feel this seam brush against you—and you’re going to remember.”

Horror Movie Romances

In anticipation of Valentine’s Day tomorrow, I bring you my favorite horror romances. I often scoff at Valentine’s Day, but, admittedly, I don’t mind the occasional chocolate treat. I also love the horror genre so why not combine the two? Maybe my love for the one will color my meh for the other. (This coming from a romance writer 🙂

Nightbreed and Candyman. Two Clive Barker stories made into movies.

Clive Barker does an amazing job touching upon a human’s relationship with his or her own flesh and how that toes the line between pain and pleasure. He did it brilliantly in Hellraiser (which could also be included here). Nightbreed and Candyman are especially gothic tales, dealing with so-called demons and or boogeymen. I’ve written before in my blog or somewhere I can no longer find, how Nightbreed is an underappreciated, misconstrued movie. It was marketed as straight horror by the studio, but it’s more a tale of the island of lost misfits except these misfits are demonic in nature. Anyway, I loved the romance between Boone and Lori. She sought him out in Midian and was not repelled by his demon nature. Personally, Nightbreed would make a great urban fantasy romance!

Candyman was a slave’s son, raised among the gentry as an artist. He fell in love with a white woman and impregnated her. His lover’s father hired a lynch mob, who cut off his hand and replaced it with a hook, covered him in honey, and left him to be stung to death by bees. Helen, a student researching urban legends, comes across the Candyman urban legend, but it’s not, and through her obsession with him, becomes his new love and her own urban legend. Candyman has a knack for horror seduction. He says to Helen: The pain, I can assure you, will be exquisite. As for our deaths, there is nothing to fear. Our names will be written on a thousand walls. Our crimes told and retold by our faithful believers. We shall die together in front of their very eyes and give them something to be haunted by. Come with me and be immortal.

Warm Bodies. While the premise was a bit hokey, this movie was funny, surprisingly heart-felt (especially loved Rob Cordry’s zombie). I wrote a brief review a while back: http://wp.me/p3aUdm-2V

The Fly. Tragic. Sad. If, instead of seeing Jeff Goldblum transforming into a fly, you view him as someone being ravaged by a disease and watch Geena Davis look on in horror and sadness knowing she can do nothing but watch him waste away, it’s truly a traumatic movie-going experience.

The Crow. It’s even more tragic to watch this movie, knowing what happened to Brandon Lee, and his father before him. The cinematography is eerie, fever dream-ish, dark, and wet; the soundtrack is fantastic with songs from The Cure, Violent Femmes, and Rollins Band; but it’s the story of how Eric Draven comes back from the dead to avenge the death of the woman he loved that is classic, oh, and the crow is cool.

Let the Right One In. The end of this movie damaged me, oh, who am I kidding? The entire movie damaged me. When we discover that Eli’s human protector, the old guy, was, well, maybe we don’t want to go there, but Oskar ends up taking his place. I wanted to both cry and cringe at the same time. Not many movies inspire such contradictory emotions. If you read a little bit about the book, it tells you that Eli was supposed to be an androgynous boy, and the movie kind of plays on this some. There are definitely themes the movies touches upon that make it horrifying in a very sublime way.

Lastly, my ode to the bromance:

Shaun of the Dead. Sadly Shaun’s best bro succumbed to the hordes, but that didn’t keep them from enjoying their favorite past-time: video games. Have a wonderful day and eats lots of luscious chocolate!

Character Meme Hop

I was tagged for this meme by fellow author and Paranormal Romantics author Veronica Scott. Thanks Veronica!!

The second book in my Necromancer Books, The Necromancer’s Betrayal, just released so I thought I’d share a little about my heroine. Thanks for stopping by 🙂

What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?

My fictional character is Ruby Montagne, a necromancer.

When and where is the story set?

Necromancer’s Betrayal is set in both in modern day San Francisco with the occasional jaunt into the demon realm.

What should we know about him/her?

She’s a necromancer and can bring the dead back to life, make zombies and revenants and other, ah, interesting abilities.

What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?

Oh where to begin. Between the two supernatural men who desire her and the call to use her power for evil, and deciding who she can trust, Ruby has her hands full.

What is the personal goal of the character?

To discover who is killing off supernaturals, including her grandmother, and why, and understand her origins and that of necromancers. To learn a little more about Ruby’s struggles, here’s the back cover copy:

Necromancer Ruby Montagne is battling for her life in the realm of demons. Unfairly branded for the death of a fellow necromancer, she’s got to prove her innocence without the full use of her magic. And the real culprit is still on the loose.

While someone is stalking her friends among the witches, Ruby searches for answers inside the dark intrigues of both the demon and necromancer worlds. Ruby must confront this new, sinister threat while reconciling her feelings for her former lover, a demon warrior. Only it’s difficult . . . because a sexy vampire is making it clear that he’d like to be a lot more than just friends.

The competition for Ruby’s trust heats up as the enemy pushes her toward a dark side that could threaten the entire realm. Yet what can Ruby do when she’s not even sure what she is? With the fabric separating the realms at stake, she must decide whom to trust. But will the ultimate betrayal be her own?

I’ve tagged a couple of author friends with some great books to share. They’ll be posting in a week or two!

I particularly like this excerpt because it takes place in a demon realm version of a red light district and brings out a different side to some of the characters, such as Ewan. Tivor, a new ally, is a demon Chronicler or keeper of demon historical records. Enjoy!

Tivor turned down a less crowded, narrower passage, and if I’d hadn’t known better, I’d have said we’d entered a red light district of sorts, with demons stumbling about as if drunk. I raised an eyebrow at Ewan, and he just smiled and waved me onward. Tivor ducked into an opening in the rock. Damon had to bend almost ninety degrees to clear the entrance to what could only be a bar packed into a small cave, as dark and musty as an aged British pub. Stone benches lined the walls circling a stone pillar in the center out of which an enormous, multi-eyed, octopus-like creature served up drinks with his tentacles. I clasped Ewan’s arm. “Why is Cthulhu the bartender?” Continue reading

Devil's Island, Mimi Sebastian, Sea RExcerpt from Devil’s Island:

On the main deck, the crew scurried about, intent on their tasks under the watchful eye of the boatswain, Ben. The topsmen unfurled sheets of canvas, great curtains that captured the wind and billowed with thunderous glee, urging the vessel forward. Fletcher, the carpenter conscripted from the Maidstone, was cutting out new ports in the hull for the new cannon they’d scavenged from the slaver. Despite his early grumbling upon joining the Archeron’s crew, he’d quickly fallen into an easy camaraderie with the men, who admired his skill with a hammer and nail.

The air draped over them, thick and steamy, and Sabine constantly wiped the sweat from her face and chest. She rubbed her hands on her skirt every minute or so to keep the needle from slipping from her fingers while she sewed up torn canvas, her back propped against the thick beam of the foremast. She’d untied the scarf and donned a hat to shelter her face from the sun that grilled them, envying the men who walked the deck shirtless.

She’d never paid mind to a crew’s state of undress when sailing with her father, although he’d kept her tucked away on the forecastle when she’d ventured topside. To a child, the men’s chests were merely an anatomical curiosity, and she was content to let Barth show her how to tie knots. But when Boone crouched next to her to counsel with Fletcher about the alterations to the ship, she found herself sneaking a peek at his chest from under the brim of her hat, as if she hadn’t seen enough in the cabin.

Sweat dripped and swam down the ridges his muscles formed on his arms and stomach. Her gaze took on a life of its own and she stared transfixed at his powerful thighs, only inches from her. The moist air had molded his breeches to his calves and ass. She found it difficult to breathe and wondered if it was possible for the air to grow even thicker.

He turned to her, and her fingers jumped back to life, except she forgot a couple of them held a thick canvas needle and she pricked her index finger. She flicked her head down to hide her scorched cheeks under the brim of her hat and sucked on the fat globs of blood oozing from the small prick.

Boone smiled. “Shall I kiss your finger and make it better?”

She stopped sucking, finger still propped on her lower lip, and watched Boone’s amused stare transform into something that jabbed at her body worse than the canvas needle. He stood, looming over her, sweaty and virile. She resisted the urge to wipe moisture off her neck and chest. Finally, as if breaking free of the momentary spell, he winked at her then made his way across deck.

Damn his eyes. When her heart settled, she resumed her stitching and snuck a peek at his retreating back, his scars standing out in sharp relief with each flex of muscle.

As she watched him, something struck her about Boone other than his lovely but tormented physique. He waded about the deck, joked with the men, took proffered sips of rum, affecting the part of a devil-may-care pirate captain, but he constantly swept his hand along every line, testing its tautness, checked the position of the cannons, studied the canvas looking for small tears or slack. He moved incessantly about the ship, caress- ing her, admiring her, showing distress at any sign of imperfection, not unlike a lover obsessed.

And, she realized with a sinking sensation, Boone might not have been capable of loving a woman, and with that thought came shock at her use of the word “love.” Stop! She knew Boone’s heart, if he had one, belonged to the sea. She’d complete her mission and leave him to his mistress.

Another girl had been taken. One moment the small village of Volkzene was silent, with Redlynn drifting off to sleep to the rhythmical sounds of her clock ticking; the next a scream pierced the night.

Redlynn leapt from her bed, grabbed her sword, and tore out to the street. People in their nightclothes, brandishing torches and lanterns, filled the village center.

“Where are they?” she called at the nearest neighbor.

“Cantrel’s.” The woman ran for the safety of her home.

Anya! Redlynn sprinted toward the south edge of the village. Her best friend was on guard alone at the Cantrel’s hut. Breathing hard, the cold night wind whipped her wavy, red hair into her face and raised goose bumps on her skin. The sound of her blood pumping in her ears drowned out the buzz of the village folk.

“Anya,” she screamed. “Anya, where are you?”

Redlynn charged through the crowd gathered outside the hut. “Move,” she yelled. The other members of the Sisterhood and villagers backed away at the sight of her.

The smell of blood hit her. She stepped over the threshold, the horror slapping her with force. Her heart faltered and a cry escaped her lips.

“No-o-o-o!” she screamed. “Anya!” Continue reading

Excerpt:

Lying beside Nefer, my body aches for her sweet embrace. I am torn between desire and blissfulness. To take her into my arms, to have her kiss upon my lips, to feel the joys of our flesh united together is tamed by the pure innocence sleeping peacefully beside me.  I know she is tired and worthy of a full uninterrupted night’s sleep. I take refuge in knowing there will be many nights to come where I can indulge in my erotic fantasies, for she will be with me for all my days to come.

Like I have so many nights before, I find myself lying awake contemplating my life. I laugh quietly at the answers I have received on my reflections; they are so different than they have been in the past. No longer are my thoughts filled with grander or a future designed by others. Looking around, I see the simplicity in what I have and what makes me truly happy. The rich furnishings I have always possessed are replaced with a tattered roof and a straw bed on the floor. A drink of spring water fills the emptiness of my stomach and the woman sleeping next to me fills the void in my heart.

Quietly, I get up and step outside where I fall to my knees under the star lit sky. I look up and like a child, the tears flow down my cheeks, cleansing what is left of my emotional soul. Like a snake that is shedding its skin, I bare myself to my ancestors and thank the Gods for this great revelation; I need nothing more than I have right now. For the first time in my life, I feel complete; totally and unequivocally complete.

V.S. NelsonAbout VS:

Being a Native American woman and a Scorpio, author V.S. Nelson has always had a fondness for history, mythology, the occult, and the unexplained events which have occurred on this world we call home. It was no wonder she found herself writing a paranormal series.

Raised on authors like H.G. Wells and Jules Verne and coming from a long line of oral storytellers, Ms. Nelson work has been defined as innovative and fresh. She will take you by the hand and lead you into the depths of her imagination as if you are sitting next to her on the couch one minute and alive within her fantasy world the next.

She has always enjoyed reading stories with strong relationships and happy-ever-after-endings and it is reflected in her work. Even her commercial fiction, Sins of a Man, the Memoirs of a Mafia Hit man, is layered with romantic elements. I’ve heard her say she is in love with love more than once and that too is echoed in her stories.

Landing in Arizona, after an exciting teaching career, which took her to the Middle East for several years, she lives in Arizona where she spends most of her time making love to her computer while writing, editing or researching, seven to ten hours a day. The days she’s not writing, you will find her with her critique partners, attending or presenting a workshop or at a RWA (Romance Writers of America) meeting. She’s extremely active in three RWA chapters in addition to her other associations.

Check out the first three books in the series on VS Nelson’s Amazon page.
